When I was growing up they actually sold straps for parents to use to strap down their little ones that wandered or slept walked at night. They would strap the child down to the bed while they slept. I know this because my parents used them on us.

In this day and age that's inhumane! But it saved my life. We ALL (3 brothers and 1 sister) slept walked as children and I almost walked right out the front door and into the middle of the street before my father ran out and caught me one night. In my opinion, (sorry if this offends anyone and you all have a right to your own opinion) but I think locking a door is a small price to pay to keep a child safe...

I agree....and besides, we don't know all the details about their family....

And yes, a "hook and eye latch" is a lock. Big woop. It locks the door so the child can't go jump into the oven and kill herself. Once again, we don't know the details. She's a 4 year old. Besides, I don't see why those who seem to be extraordinarily concerned don't just PM her a message....publicly attacking parenting during a delicate time when a pet has been lost would infuriate me. Everybody has their own parenting styles, and everyone thinks that they're right. Some will agree, some will disagree - just like a million other subjects. I have certain ways I deal with kids, and so does Holly. I'll bet a million bucks a couple of you would have problems or concerns with our methods. And I'll bet some things YOU folks do WE would think is insane! We're all from different generations, cultures and backgrounds so there will be varying opinions. There's no point in battling them all out here.

Well I have lost a pet due to stupid actions on my own part. My snake rocky died due to negligence when I first started with reps. I still feel bad to this day he was great. We had paid 300 dollars for him to. losing a pet is hard but it not being a natural death is even harder.

Luce, I feel your pain for the loss , ignore the childrens rights lobby, as they've jump at the chance to slag you off, without the full details,there's a severe lack of disapline these days[you do what you have to],years ago my daughter pulled the end of my iguanas tail off the second day I had it,she was 4,woke up super early to play with it, first I knew was an inch of bloody wiggling tail stuffed in my face at 6.00am, shed tried to get the little fella out by playing tug of war she was sorted out and the iguana made a full recovery in the end, DONT FEEL GUILTY for your actions or reaction,please stay on the forum as you've always had good advice for the masses, time is a good healer and oneday you'll be found by another Bluey in need I'm sure.

I just want to say thank you for all the support you guys have given.

Quigly's death has hit me pretty hard, it is one of those straw that broke the camel's back situations.

Kira and i have talked about what she did and we buried Quigly out at my mom's place next to my cat. We had planted a lilac bush at Tiggers' grave and we will be planting a Bleeding Heart bush at Quiglys'.

I have read this thread since day one and kept my thoughts to myself. I wanted to respond to offer my condolences for Quigly's loss, but I was sick over it, and more so over your daughter. Please don't take this as further chastisement, as you have had plenty. Aneesa spoke my sentiments fairly well.

First, I am truly sorry for the terrible death of your beautiful little blue tongue, Quigly. I know personally what the pet greiving process is like.

That being said, I want to give you something to think about (a very important point that was never even mentioned) from another point of view; that of a former firefighter. I've seen some pretty horrific things when I was on the job in the 70's and 80's, but none more horrific than a childs room being separated from the parent's room by fire.

In these cases, the child/children have at least a fighting chance to get out of the room and out some other exit. With the door locked from the outside, those chances are ZERO!

God forbid you should ever have a late night house fire while your child is locked in her room. Because, if she is fortunate enough to keep her face on the floor till firefighters can get to her, she may make it. But, 9 out of 10 times she will be dead of smoke inhalation long before the flames reach the interior of her room. I know of no state's fire codes where locking a childs door from the outside is not illegal. And there have been prosecutions when a firefighter has come upon this situation, even when the child is rescued.

I know, it will never happen to you. I can't tell you how many people, who made it out alive on my responses, have said to me that they always thought it would never happen to them.

Please think about this, because as bad as it is to be greiving over a beloved pet, it would be far worse greiving over the loss of a child.

I wish the best for you and your children, and again, I'm very sorry about Quigs.

I'm having a very hard time with this...

I'm really sorry that the blue tongue is dead, but what is so alarming is that you admittedly LOCK YOUR CHILD IN HER ROOM like it's the most normal action in the world.... and IT IS NOT!!

Why wouldn't you lock your bluey up instead? That makes much more sense and is far more humane. Lccking your child up or restraining her, physically, (in this manner), should never be an option... EVER! I just can't get over the responses here. Everyone is so sorry about the poor dead skink, but there is some seriously deranged behaviour and parental "lack of" skills being practiced and broadcasted in a public forum.

This is above and beyond insane.... what is the world coming to?

How is locking the door on a child's room abuse or bad in any way? Would you rather she wanders around and hurts herself? Is this technically any different than placing a baby in a crib, which by the way if I do recall confines the child to a much smaller space than locking the door on a room to prevent late night wanderings. I think it was incredibly foolish of you to jump to the conclusion that her child was being abused in any way when you have never even met the person in question. Bottom line, you shouldn't have even brought it up.
