I went through 3 years of convincing my parents, who originally threatened to kick me out of the house if I got a reptile. I love that I can finally give my experience to help others ^.^

Like most non herp people, they tend to be nosey, once your old man's had a little look here and there, he'll end up asking about it and commenting on things he's observed when your not around, even the scared of them people see something funny and it changes thier whole perspective.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

I love this thread! I just love getting my parents to do what I want. Kris, I'm sure after all this research you'll have a happy skinker!
As for the bathroom issue... I hope you have a washing machine
There are ways to reduce the chance, but it's almost a right of passage to get crapped on around here. To help, when you first take your skink out, have an area (a towel or the grass in the backyard) to let it move about a bit where it's safe to go pee/poo. Generally they seem to go in the first 5-10 minutes of coming out. The more of a schedule for feeding you're on, the more scheduled their poo will be, a big help. Once they poo once they're usually done for the day.
Otherwise, keep a towel handy, keep them off anything that can't be cleaned, and get to learn to signs of impending doom. The signs can include raising a leg, raisng the tail, an odd wiggle, etc, and are different for each skink. Just remember, pee is harmless, so you're biggest problem is poo.

If you're looking to get a skink, it doesn't matter where you get it from, so long as it's a responsible breeder. The people on this site are guaranteed to have great animals, but that doesn't mean you're friend wont. So long as your friend has healthy animals, and he's taking care of them properly, all is well. But make sure that whoever you buy from is giving them proper food and light, and has healthy, happy skinkers. The only other problem I could see is if your friend doesn't have pure species. Ask tonns of questions.

I'll ask every question there is on that caresheet and i'll give him 2 strikes unless it's really an important factor like if it's CB or not.I also just got off the phone with him and he said he's going to a reptile show and all sorts of reptiles will be there and i told him to look around for me. Well guys, waddya think

I would choose to buy from a reliable breeder that would help if you have questions. If you buy from a reptile show you may never see those folks again. Maybe others feel differently but I found the breeder I purchased from invaluable as a new Bluey owner.

If you live by David, why don't you both buy from the same breeder, and save on shipping? Saving money is a big incentive for parents to say yes. ^.^ Or at least it is for my parents.
"Mom, can I get a spider"
"Eww, NO!"
"But mom, it's a super nice spider, green and blue and orange!"
"Eww, NO!"
"It doesn't take up much room, and I'll keep it in my room and you never have to see it"
"Eww, NO!"
"But mom, if I buy it today I get the enclosure free!"
"Free?"
I really hope my mother never reads this thread.

Oh, and I have to say the oddest thing about owning BTS is that Pryce is a womanizing B-turd. He loves boobs, so I've been holding him and he'll swing around and go to the boobs, or try to get into my shirt. And when my friend was visiting she was wearing a low-cut top. Pryce was a happy lizard, Ashley was not. Lizard tongues aren't that warm.

A skink after my own heart(and ladies boobs)
And before the 'You and Blue' thread, this would have been a real shocker
Pryce is a total retard. If I go to take him out, he'll occasionally be very huffy and keep struggling and burrowing. This tends to be around shed time. But then if I give up and leave him, he gets upset with me, and scratches at the glass to be taken out, giving me dirty looks. He is an absolutely stupid lizard.
The only thing stupider is Trikks, who firmly believes that if you walk out into thin air, something will appear to catch you. He'll be sitting quietly on my hand as I prepare food, then just decide to go for a walk. And I guess it's my fault because I keep catching him. Aren't animals supposed to have a built in fear of heights?!
At least Wocket seems intelligent... for the most part.
