anyone else here a MMA (mixed martial arts) fan?

It's... interesting in a way I guess. I've done martial arts for years and always got bored with face-bashing. I usually get my MMA fix at the sports bar every few weeks while having a burger. That's about it. I certainly respect the training and the effort!

I'm a total fan of any matial arts if it can let me stand in the background with my hands over my eyes - I'm a little woman and the only thing I can "throw" is a solid object.

Both are cool to me. I do dislike however when these athletes pull a "Michael Jordan" and retire only to come back months later. The Natural's retirement was super short. I figure he loves the sport and hates to give it up, but he still trains everyday and probably spars on a semi-daily basis. I guess it's the actual adrenaline that comes from the real fights. But I think it's terrible to your fans to put them through that roller-coaster. I mean Ed "Short Fuse" Herman cried on national T.V. when Couture "retired" only to come right back.

Well, with Vera out they had to do something, at the time Tim/Gonzaga would have seemed pointless. I bet Randy got an insanely nice offer, and then he put on one of the most memorable fights in a while, so i don't mind at all. I can't blame a fighter for thinking he's done and getting the desire again. It would be worse for the fans to not see another fight than to wonder if and when a fighter might come back.

Me either Zach but the only thing that can possibly work when you are built like a woman, half the size and don't have the benefit of surprise is a good kick in the balls.

I've got four very large brothers and there are certain things you don't do - and that's one of them.

Where's Edward? I haven't been on much myself and still have a ton of posts to catch up on, but I don't think I've seen him online in a few days.

Modern mixed martial arts emerged in 1993 with the Ultimate Fighting Championships, based on the concept of pitting different fighting styles against each other in competition with minimal rules, in an attempt to determine which system would be more effective in a real, unregulated combat situation.[1] In the late 1990s and early 2000s, MMA competitions implemented additional rules for the safety of the athletes and to promote acceptance of the sport, while maintaining as much of the original no-holds-barred concept as possible. Since these changes, MMA has grown rapidly, to the point of setting pay-per-view records.[2]

Wow - you have a great memory! I caught a cold a few days before the marathon, but I got rid of most of it by yesterday morning. I was still worried it (or my knee) would cause me problems, but I made it to the finish line and got my medal! :spot: It was great weather and I've already decided to do it again next year. I was sore afterwards of course, but I'm glad I did it. My average time was even better than I had been doing during my training walks.
