Other than tadpoles (that I released once they had legs), this is my first amphibian. The little FBT and his fully furnished tank were free! Our craigslist is awesome. Got tons of free apple and spixie snails last week. As a matter of fact, I haven't gotten around to telling the hubby about him yet. He may ban me from craigslist if I do. My kids keep talking about "Goblin" and my husband assumes this is a stuffed animal!
For those of you who have these or similar critters, I have some questions: how do you dust when the crickets swim the calcium off, do I need UV, and do you feed anything other than small crickets? I want this little bugger to live to a nice old age....

They get huge though and have to be housed seperatly.

I thought they had to be housed separately be they are cannibalistic.

They can also eat bloodworms. They come frozen in little squares so you can just use a square at a time. I just used the regular zoo med light bulbs.

Did anyone happen to go to the NARBC this weekend in Chicago? Curious if I was the only one who witnessed the pathetic selling of bts. One table was selling 4 "Irian Jaya" babies that looked Irian Jaya-Northern cross. The poor things had mashed up backs. I couldn't even talk to the breeder, I was so upset about it. There was another table that was selling a "hypo northern" (their words, not mine) for $250. Hypo? The poor skink was a light shade of brown. Next to the hypo was a skink labeled "high orange" which was not even close to orange. I often wonder how many uneducated people walk into those shows and end up with a diseased skink or a skink they think is really special (when in reality it's colors are super dull). I'm making it my goal to go to a show where Andrew and Ray are vending. I'd love to see some quality skinks for sale.

I walked away from the show with no new additions to the family. I simply purchased some cacti pads and horned worms. I never fed cactus before, and I was quite surprised that my guys LOVED the stuff. I wish I could find it around here.

Well, I took Belle to my local independent pet store this Saturday to buy some superworms for her and some mealworms for Thelma and Louise the sugar gliders. Lori had them in their pouch around her neck and Belle rode in my hoodie pocket.

They carry mainly snakes, bearded dragons and some tortoises plus fish, bunnies, ferrets, chinchillas, rats, etc. Every once in a while, they'll have a poor little imported BTS that looks malnourished that they start out selling for $150-$200 but have to end up giving away if someone purchases a tank setup. I've tried talking to them but I hope they just don't get any more in the future.

Anyway, their help is enthusiastic and willing to learn and were excited to see Belle because they had had a blue tongue not too long ago. One of the girls working there told me that the skink they had was a Portuguese Skink so now you know there is another new species to collect.

The place was somewhat crowded and Belle drew a crowd except for the one lady that almost fainted and quickly ran the other way. Come on, its a pet store with snakes. That was fun

All in all, the kids got to get out for a while before we head off for Orlando this week for work and fun.

Going to stop by Ray's next Saturday to see Bandit's parents and the rest of his menagerie. Really looking forward to that and I'd like to thank Ray in advance for letting us intrude for a brief while to see his crew. It will be the highlight of the trip for me.

I did go to the Tinley show this past Saturday. Even though there was little in terms of BTS, it was the best reptile show I have ever been to. It took us nearly 3 hours just to look at everything (of course we stopped a couple times but not for long). I did see some adult Northerns (?) that JMG reptiles was selling. I didnt really look at them though so I couldnt check for sure if they were northerns or not. Of course LLLReptiles also had a couple BTS, but the one didnt look very good at all. Another vendor had 2 TINY Indos, one looked very healthy, the other looks thin. It was tempting to get the nice looking Indo, but I held back.

Even though I brought $500, my biggest purchase was on Crested Gecko Diet. I did bring home a new Tarantula, though from Botars. I got a little P. regalis sling. Cute little guy. But I also picked up about 200+ roaches to start breeding.

I also found a great deal on the local craigslist. I picked up 11 20gal tanks for $60 and I might go back and get the 125 for $50.

I have had a terrible day if it wasnt for my cat dusty being extremely dependant today i think i would have had a breakdown it almost seems like he knew. I shut the bedroom door and was crying and he kept scratching and meowing at the door and when i would go to the bathroom he'd follow me in and lay at my feet. I think he deserves a treat.
