New Additions - NOW WITH PICS!!!

Postby Blotch » Wed Mar 12, 2008 2:33 am

hey all!

Well I just got back from Seeing Naomieve. I've taken in her 2 easterns Yoda and Alvin. For all those that are unaware of the history of these animals, Late last year (christmas day), Naomi posted about a problem with one of her easterns. it seem that somehow the part where the forelegs meet the body had become split.

Anyway, if you search for a post by Naomieve you'll find the post. So they are pretty thin, the injured one has a heap of shed build up on it, missing a few toes and like Nikki has kinks in her tail. I have noticed that the "healthy" ones eyes seem to stick out a heap. Like bubbles. Hopefully this is nothing - although one eye is slightly discoloured. Could be to onset of blindness.

Well i have the injured one soaking in a bath of warm water, and will be attending to it in an hour or so. hopefully then the shed will come off for me. Will post pics after. Oh By the way - they are REALLY dark - some would say hypermelanistic - i would!

Ok the arm pits - are looking fine (actually naomi did an awesome job helping them heal as well as they have) - however the stuck shed was alot worse than I first thought. I've spent the past hour or so trying to get most of the shed off. I've done alot!!! It's pretty clean now - a few missing toes and mangled ones from the shed build up but she looks alot cleaner. Naomi will be pumped when I take new pics and show her.

The other one (both are actually Female I think) also has stuck shed on the toes - and I'll be fixing them tomorrow. I think that one has also lost a cpl of toes but the all round condition is better.

Both could put on a lot more weight - however I've seen alot worse.

The shed I pulled off the belly of the one that had the cuts was really thick. i think maybe 5 sheds worth? it's pretty stiff.

Just a word to all that read this - when soaking your blueys - you are doing so to sofen the shed - it's not a 5 minute job - it takes alot longer. My suggestion - leave them for 20mins then come assess the situation. leave for longer if need be.

Luke,

put some liquid conditioner into the warm water.
The stuff used in washing machines...Umm Comfort or Softly I think they're called.

Or just apply some to the affected area for awhile before soaking.

...and obviously rinse off thoroughly.
Geoff.

After pulling all the shed off - well all I could - i reckon the arm injuries were from shedding not from an attack.

do you think that the hard skin(shed bulid up) was rubbing into the armpit causing the wound then?

not so much rubbing - probably moreso restricting movement and cutting in.

Even with all the shed that i took off the belly - you can still see a layer over he belly that is really dry.

I'm gonna try what Geoff said - although I'm kinda suspect on the chemicals. I was also thinking about Aloe Vera or Sorbolene.

Oh another bonus - the one that had the injuries has taken some food already!

Not a great pic I know - but proof that eating is happening!
