Tail Injury

Postby Teddy » Wed May 29, 2024 1:58 am

Hey herpers!
I'm new to the community decided to post because I'm worried about an injury on my bluey bub's tail.

Teddy (suspected he) is about 6 months old and today his tail was caught in his enclosure and he sustained a small cut to the top of his tail. It seems just deeper than the scales and did bleed a little at rhe time, especially since the tip of his tail was a little wiggly after it happened.

I'm not sure if it's a case of autonomy and he will lose his tail or whether it can heal from here (with the tail still attached).

So far my plan is to keep his enclosure warm and sterile with tissue paper bedding rather than other substrate. It seemed a fairly clean injury so i wasnt planning on cleaning it.

I suppose I'm just asking if anyone else has experienced this and what to expect or look out for.

I just hope he will be okay.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Note; I will definwtly take him to a vet if things deteriorate. He seems behaviourally fairly unfazed at this point and no signs of infection.

I would recommend keeping it clean with chlorhexidine and monitor the wound. If it gets worse then vet visit.
